Touring wedding venues is exciting, but it's easy to get swept up in the aesthetics and forget to ask the practical questions that actually determine how your day will run. Here's a checklist to bring with you to every tour.

About the space

• How many hours are included in the rental, and what does that cover (setup, event, breakdown)?

• What's the guest capacity for the layout I'm planning — seated dinner, dancing, etc.?

• Is there a covered outdoor space, and how is it used if weather isn't ideal?

• What tables, chairs, and furniture are included versus rented separately?

About vendors

• Can I bring in my own caterer, florist, and decor vendors?

• Is there a required or preferred vendor list for alcohol service?

• What are the guidelines around decorations — candles, confetti, installations?

• When can my vendors arrive for setup, and is that time included in my rental hours?

About cost

• What deposit is required to secure the date, and when is the remaining balance due?

• Is there a refundable damage deposit, and what's the timeline for getting it back?

• What's the hourly rate if I need to add time beyond my package?

• Are A/V, security, and beverage service included, or priced separately?

About support on the day

• Will a venue coordinator or support staff be on-site throughout the event?

• Who do I coordinate with for setup and teardown timing?

• Is security required, and under what circumstances (serving alcohol, guest count)?

About logistics

• How much parking is available for my guest count?

• Is Wi-Fi available, and is that relevant to any part of my day?

• Is event insurance required, and does the venue have a preferred provider?

• What's the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
